Flat glass window film is the second half of a window film business, and for most distributors it is the larger half by volume. The same rolls that go on a car window go on an office tower, a shop front and a home. KSB manufactures the flat glass range, so a buyer can combine architectural and automotive orders in the same container and the same shipment.

The range splits into three families. Decorative and dichroic films give the mirror and privacy look. Security and safety films hold shattered glass together. And exterior films put the reflective performance on the outside of the glass for heat and power-bill reduction.

Security and Safety Film
Security film is the specification that ends up in the tender document. It holds shattered glass together, which is what keeps a pane in a frame and what a building owner is actually buying. See the KSB security and safety film range for the grades and their test references.
Exterior Commercial and Residential Film
Exterior film goes on the outside of the glass, where it rejects solar energy before it ever reaches the pane. That is the version that cuts an air-conditioning load and a power bill, and it is the product our guide to exterior window film for commercial buildings and homes is built around.
What Flat Glass Film Does for the End Customer
- Full UV protection, so furniture, drapes, artwork and flooring do not fade
- Anti-glare and less eye strain for people who work next to the window
- Privacy for a home or a business, without changing the building
- Improved safety, because the film keeps shattered glass together
- Lower energy bills, because the room stays cooler and needs less cooling
- A custom look that reads the same from inside and outside
Flat Glass Window Film Wholesale and Supply
Flat glass window film is light and bulky, which makes it one of the cheapest cargos to move in a container, so freight per roll is low at volume. We supply the full range on 1.38 x 30 m and 1.52 x 30 m rolls, and we can mix automotive and architectural grades in one container so a distributor does not have to run two shipments.
A standard 1.52 m x 30 m roll covers 45.6 square meters, so a 40ft container holds around 2,000 to 2,600 rolls. If you are new to importing, our automotive window film buyer’s guide and the guide to shipping window film from China cover how to evaluate and land a first container.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is the same film used on cars and buildings?
The manufacturing base is the same, but the specification is not. Automotive work is driven by VLT and heat rejection, and building work is driven by the light and the appearance, so architectural film is usually 2 mil and decorative while automotive film is 1.5 to 2 mil and heat-focused.
Which film should I start with for commercial work?
Start with a silver or dichroic film in a mid VLT, because that is what most shop front and office partitions specify. Keep a frosted and a blackout on the shelf for bathroom partitions and privacy screens, and they are usually the easiest lines to sell.
Do these films block UV?
Most of the range blocks 79% to 99% of UV, and the frosted and blackout grades sit above 98%. That is the specification that protects interior finishes, which is the reason most building owners buy film in the first place.
Can I order automotive and architectural film in one container?
Yes. We supply mixed containers, which is usually the cheapest way for a distributor to test the architectural range while keeping the automotive volume that pays for the freight.
